The European Commission wants to roll back the phase-out of internal combustion engines: Instead of zero emissions, new cars from 2035 should have to emit only 90 percent less CO2. The remaining emissions should be offset by car manufacturers through the use of environmentally friendly steel or climate-friendly fuels. Two Dutch pension funds are withdrawing €19 billion from the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock. The reason: BlackRock has largely abandoned climate protection and other sustainability criteria.

A study has for the first time calculated when every single glacier on Earth is expected to disappear, and how many glaciers may remain by the end of the century. From smaller glaciers at low elevations — for example in the Alps — about half could already disappear completely within the next ten to twenty years.
