No natural gas -> Consequence: no coal exit
No coal exit -> Consequence: no effective climate protection
That is the technical reality!
— > that no one wants to hear because it does not fit our “western” geopolitics.
But ideology does not change reality.
The reality is:
-> We can reduce the share of “fossil” electricity generation,
but not to zero (by a long shot)
-> Coal-fired power plants, in principle, emit about three times more CO2 for the same electricity generation.
-> And gas-fired power plants are technically as well as economically well suited to the further expansion of the “renewables”, better than coal-fired plants.
Technically, gas and coal-fired plants are in competition with each other.
But not or less battery storage and more renewables.
More renewables and more battery storage only reduce the amount of “fossil” power plants still needed.
The question of whether the remaining fossil fuels will be gas or coal-fired plants makes a difference in emissions by a factor of 3!
