It is obviously about a one-time vaccination administered directly at birth. This is not recommended in Germany.(!)
The essential difference is that in Germany all pregnant women are screened for a Hepatitis B infection. Newborns of Hepatitis B-infected mothers are actively and passively immunized at birth.
In the United States, this does not seem to be tested comprehensively, accordingly there was the recommendation to vaccinate everyone once to prevent infections during birth.
The recommendation to vaccinate all children against Hepatitis B (full series of 3 doses), from 6 weeks of age, has not been changed in the United States.
I consider the CDC’s decision to be more than questionable – the decision will primarily have negative effects on disadvantaged communities, because the extent of prenatal care there is very low. So there will be more Hepatitis B cases in this group.
However, reporting should make clear what this is really about. And it’s not about not vaccinating against Hepatitis B at all.
